Polymers and copolymers of C2H4 are formed at above 50 degrees C. and above 50 atm. in presence of radicals resulting from the thermal or catalytic decomp. of C2H4, copolymer compd. or other co-reactant at temps. of more than 50 degrees C., pref. 200-600 degrees C. above that of the reaction mixt. The thermal decompsn. is induced by a hot wire or by high tension or arc discharge. The preferred copolymer cpds. are C3H6, vinyl esters, acrylic or methacrylic acids or esters, CO, allyl cpds. or vinyl fluoride or chloride. The co-reactants are C2H6, C3H8, SO2, H2, MeOH or Me2CO.
