[Also in Division H1] Apparatus for the assembly of an electrode system for an electron gun (e.g. in a colour TV cathode-ray tube) (see Division H1) includes two, three or more C-shaped holding members 23, rotatably mounted on pivot shafts 42 while central rod 44 receives the grid electrodes 11, 12, 13 and 14 with spacers 27. Insulating rod 16 (e.g. glass) is heated by burner 31 and fed by mechanism 33 to engage stop 21. The holding members are pivoted to bring arcuate support members 15 into contact with rod 16 while soft due to heating. After fusion, automatic cutter 34 severs the rod. The burner mix may be gaseous fuel and air or high-frequency heating may be employed. Vacuum or nitrogen atmospheres produce oxidation-free assemblies. |
