The anodes for electrolysis consts. of a metal base of Ti, Ta, Zr, Nb, al or alloys of these metals and a resistance coating of ZrC. This may be introduced by coating with a thin layer of Zr followed by treatment with C or a C-containing compound or by treating with a suspension of ZrC in a solvent e.g. ethylene glycol.
