A multifilament nylon strand which has a tenacity greater than 7 g.p.d., a maximum elongation at 22‹ C. of less than 20%, an initial modulus at 22‹ C. between 25-60 g.p.d., a breaking strength at 22‹ C. of at least 0À0160 1b./den., a moisture regain at 22‹ C. of less than 3À5%, a birefringence between 0À060- 0À068 and a density between 1À14-1À16 g./cc., is made by subjecting a multifilament nylon strand to a temp. of 275-350‹ C. for 2-12 sec. while applying a tension sufficient to elongate the strand by 10-50%. The terms " initial modulus " and " moisture regain " are defined. Specified nylons are 66, 6 and 612 nylons. Suitably the product has a " sonic modulus " (as defined) at 22‹ C. of 40-110 g.p.d. |
