A contact breaker assembly for use in an ignition distributer comprises a self-contained unit including a contact plate 11 having a hole therein, a fixed contact 14 supported on plate 11, a sleeve 15 secured to plate 11 coaxial with the hole, an insulating heel member 18 pivotally supported on sleeve 15, the heel member 18 being a snap fit on sleeve 15, a movable contact 24 supported on heel member 18, and a leaf spring 25 having one end secured to heel member 18 and the other end 26 anchored to an insulating member carried by contact plate 11. The arrangement is such that when the contact breaker assembly is mounted in a distributer the pivot post upstanding from the timing plate extends into the hole in plate 11 to render the assembly pivotable with respect to the timing plate to adjust the gap between the contacts 14, 24. The pivot post may be a short post 32, Fig. 2 (not shown), stamped out of the timing plate. Heel member 18 is held on sleeve 15 by two ribs 17 over the top of heel member 18 or alternatively sleeve 15 is formed with a circumferential groove and heel member 18 has a rib engaging the groove. Plate 11 is fastened to the timing plate by screw 31a, Fig. 6 (not shown). In a modification contact 24 is domed and contact 14 is flat and of larger diameter than contact 24. |
