1415031 Toothed gearing THOMSON-CSF 18 July 1973 [21 July 1972] 34306/73 Heading F2Q A mechanism for converting continuous rotation of a driving shaft 2 into alternating rotary motion in reverse directions of an output shaft 9 comprises toothed wheels 3, 4 rotatably mounted on the shaft 2 and being alternately coupled thereto by a coupling ball 6 carried by a crank arm 5 secured to the shaft 2, the wheel 4 meshing a pinion 7 on the output shaft 9 and the wheel 3 meshing an intermediate pinion 8 which also meshes the pinion 7. For half a revolution, the wheel 3 is coupled to shaft 2 by engagement of ball 6 with a recess 31 in wheel 3, and for the next half revolution the ball 6 engages a similar recess in the face of gear 4 to couple this gear to the shaft 2 until the ball re-engages the recess 31 in gear 3. Alternatively, shaft 9 may be the driving shaft and shaft 2 the driven shaft. |
