Method of binding documents, items of correspondence etc. uses a needle, a needle drive installation, a binding thread spool and a working table. The working table (1) has a guide groove for the binding thread (4) which is positioned in the path of the needle (3). The needle is a machine type hook needle with the stroke of the needle measured to produce a suitably large loop for the threading of the thread end. A cutter is fitted above the hook on the needle. A hole is provided within the area of the needle path in the plate of the working table with its diameter wider than the binding thread guide groove (4).
