<p>In a device for sepg. off individual sections of molten glass for charging a mould, comprising (a) co-operating shearing elements mounted on a pair of shear arms which can pivot to and from one another (b) a device connecting the arms together in such a way that the pivoting motion of any one of the arms produces a reversed pivot motion of the other arm (c) a power source for bringing about periodic pivot motion of the arm in the direction causing the shearing elements to open and (d) a spring-actuated device causing a pivot motion of the shearing arms in the opposite direction, when they are released from the power source, the further improvement comprises the spring-actuated device consisting of a torsion bar in which energy from the power source is stored by its rotation during the opening motion of the shearing elements. The use of a torsion rod overcomes the problem of the variability of the properties of the helical spring it replaces and ensures a length of life of 1 year or more compared with about 3 months at best.</p> |
