<p>Device for collecting and removing from teh surface of a sheet of water, a liq. of differing physical characteristics, includes a floating substructure, a cylindrical scavenging drum free to rotate on a shaft supported by the substructure, collecting arrangements for the fluid with different characteristics, and means of transferring the fluid into a storage tank. Behind the scavenging drum there is a barrier to prevent the escape of the polluting liq. not picked up during the first passage, and flow channel are provided to guide back the fluid into the range of the scavenging drum, and there are means of ensuring that floating matter such as ice does not obstruct the operation; a conveyor being provided to divert this floating matter beneath the guide channels and under the oil barrier into the open. Arrangement overcomes difficulties encountered when drift ice interferes with the collecting drum and the feedback channels for the oil.</p> |
