1529894 Laryngoscopes RICHARD WOLF GmbH 12 March 1976 [12 March 1975 11 Sept 1975] 10091/76 Heading A5R A laryngoscope comprises a beak-shaped spatula 1 made of light conducting transparent or translucent acylic glass or polycarbonate plastics material and releasably connectible by a dovetail joint 2, 7 with a handle 3 having a glass fibre light conductor extending therethrough which ends in a ground flat face 5 so that light emerging therefrom enters face 8 of the spatula. The light conductor is coupled to a light source by a connector 4 and the surface of the spatula may be polished or covered with an inwardly light reflecting material, e.g. chromium, to prevent the escape of light other than at its distal end. In a modification face 6 of the handle may have a lamp set therein to replace the light conductor and energised either by a battery within the handle or from an external source, an on/off switch being provided for the lamp. A spring extending from face 6 of the handle may be used to eject the spatula when a peg or spring loaded ball which secures the engagement between the handle and spatula is released. The dovetail joint may be replaced by a joint of T-section, and the laryngoscope coloured red or orange to aid location. |
