PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound industrially and advantageously, by using metallic calcium or a calcium alcoholate as a catalyst in the ester interchange of a lower alkyl (meth)acrylate with an alkylaminoalcohol. CONSTITUTION:In preparing the aimed compound useful as a raw material for cationic high polymeric flocculants by the ester interchange of a lower alkyl acrylate or methacrylate, preferably methyl or ethyl ester, with an alkylaminoalcohol expressed by the formula[R1 and R2 are 1-8C alkyl, R1 is further H; (n) is an integer 1-4], inexpensive metallic calcium or a calcium alcoholate, e.g. a calcium alcoholate of a lower alcohol or the above-mentioned alcohol, having improved catalytic activity, and easily handleable with little side reactions is used as a catalyst to give the aimed compound advantageously. |
