PURPOSE:To obtain an optical bus branching and inserting circuit for plural parallel optical loop systems by coupling other inputs and outputs of N units of optical directional couplers with N units of input optical waveguides and N units of output optical waveguides. CONSTITUTION:Four optical directional couplers are formed on an IC substrate and each coupler is coupled at one side mutually. One optional optical directional coupler, e.g. the 2nd coupler is applied with voltages between electrodes A2 and B2, and A'2 and B'2. In this case, light incident from input optical waveguides I1, I3, and I4 are projected from output optical waveguides O1, O3, and O4, but light incident from I2 is projected not from O2, but from an optical branching waveguide DRP. At this time, when an optical signal is made incident from an optical branching waveguide ISN, this optical signal is projected from the waveguide O2. Namely, the branching and insertion of the optical signal with and from the 2nd optical path I2-O2 are carried out. Thus, the optical bus branching and inserting circuit for plural parallel optical loop systems is obtained. |
