PURPOSE:To prevent a wrong insertion of a magnetic card having a magnetic stripe on both faces of a JIS/ISO card, etc. by detecting whether there is a difference or not in an output signal of a track of the magnetic stripe of both faces of an inserted magnetic card. CONSTITUTION:Both magnetic stripes 20, 21 of an inserted magnetic card are read by magnetic heads 33, 34, and whether there is a difference or not in an output signal of each track T1, T2 of the magnetic heads 33, 34 is discriminated by a detecting circuit. That is to say, the JIS stripe 20 is a single track, therefore, naturally output signals of the tracks T1, T2 of the magnetic head 33 or 34 are the same, and on the contrary, the ISO stripe 21 is a multitrack, therefore, an output signal of the track T1 and an output signal of the track T2 of the magnetic head 33 or 34 are different in its recording density. Accordingly, from the output signals of both the tracks T1, T2, a difference of the number of pulses or a difference of the phase between the tracks is detected by the detecting circuit, by which an inserting direction of the inserted magnetic card can be detected. |
