The invention relates to a method for detecting defined locations provided with marks, such as imperfections (cracks, cavities or the like) or welds, of a strip, especially one running at high speed, by means of a detector. The invention is characterised in that at the locations in question, permanent magnets or permanent magnet systems are inserted in the surface of the strip or are welded into or onto the latter.
