Hydraulic grip wedge for anvil inserts

There is a grip wedge in which a chamber housing 1 has a plurality of chambers 8, in which are arranged pressure pistons 14 which rest against a rigid pressure plate 5. It is desirable to reduce the risk of damage to or knocking out of the guide of the pressure pistons in the chambers and of the pressure plate in the chamber housing in order to avoid the grip wedge becoming leaky due to operation. This is achieved by the fact that the pressure plate 5 extends over the entire front side of the chamber housing 1 and, at both longitudinal sides, in each case engages with a guide rim 4 in a guide recess 3 of the chamber housing 1 and that the pressure pistons 14 are arranged in two rows and their diameter is less than twice the length of the pistons. By virtue of the overlap of the pressure plate on the chamber housing, it is possible to increase the effective guidance between the pressure plate and the chamber housing because guidance can be provided along the entire longitudinal side. In particular, guidance by the pressure pistons is increased by having two rows of pressure pistons of reduced diameter relative to their length. <IMAGE>
