The invention relates generally to variable geometry furniture and more especially to low tables with tops. This piece of furniture is noteworthy in that it comprises at least one top 11, extensions 14a and 14b, which are independent of the top, and a rolling assembly 17 having the function of making contact between the extensions 14a, 14b and the top 11 in order to allow a relative displacement making it possible to assume in particular two extreme positions, one of low bulk when the plate 11 and the extensions 14a, 14b are in a superposed position, the other of maximum size when the extensions 14a, 14b are in the use position. The invention finds one main application in making low tables with movable tops. <IMAGE>
