PURPOSE:To complete thawing of a frozen food in a short time, by applying water to the surface of an object to be treated, heating the object with compressed hot air and irradiating the object with microwave radiation. CONSTITUTION:An object 20 to be treated is placed at a definite position in a heating chamber 2 and closed by closing a door 3. A solenoid valve 4a is opened to blast steam against the object 20, an air heater 6 is energized and a solenoid valve 5a is opened to supply the chamber 2 with hot air and to rotate a stirring fan 8. The temperature change in the room 2 is detected with a temperature sensor 7. When the atmospheric temperature in the chamber 2 is increased, decreased and again increased to a prescribed standard level, a magnetron 11 is energized to apply microwave to the object 20. The heating of the object is accelerated and the object is thawed by this process. After thawing, the operations of the valve 5a, the air heater 6 and the magnetron 11 are stopped and a solenoid valve 10a is operated to open a pressure-releasing valve 10 to release the pressure in the chamber 2.
