The equipment for pointing needles and similar articles consists of a grinding disk (1) with its face vertical and a fixture (2) for feeding and positioning hte needle against the disk. The fixture has an inclined passage providing a feed hole (3) at the top and an emit hole (4) at the side. The needle is dropped into the feed hole of the fixture and is presented to the disk at the point angled with the disk rotating against the direction of feed. The grinding force exerted by the disk momentarily lifts the needle, which also rotates. This process continues until a complete point is produced. The fixture, which can be of circular section, has a diameter which is between one half and one to twentieth of the needle length. In relation to the grinding disk face the exit hole is approx. limited by the straight sides of a section having one side 20 deg. below and the other 45 deg. above the horizontal.
