Mixing and settling appts for liq/liq extn comprises several (three) extn chambers in series. Each chamber has a first horizontal partition, dividing it into mixing and settling-zones. An adjustable vertical partition forms an overflow between the two zones. The mixingzone has four hollow elements which receive the light phase from a header and have downward inclined holes to pass the light phase into the heavy phase, forming a mixed phase which passes in a zigzag flow to the overflow and into the settling zone. The light and heavy phases formed in the latter are extracted separately into the next extn chamber.
