<p>PURPOSE:To selectively obtain ortho-hydroxybenzaldehydes in high yield in a method for producing the hydroxybenzaldehydes from phenol or a phenol derivative by Reimer-Tiemann reaction. CONSTITUTION:In a method for producing hydroxybenzaldehydes by reacting phenol or a phenol derivative with a haloform in the presence of a base, the reaction is carried out in a substantial solid state to provide the objective ortho- hydroxybenzaldehydes in high selectivity and yield.</p> |
