The nipper set has an upper nipper plate (10) and a lower nipper plate (9). The lower edge of the upper nipper plate (10) can be pressed against the top (9.2) of the lower nipper plate (9) in order to nip a lap to be combed so that a tuft projecting from the nipper set can be combed by a circular comber of the machine. Here, a projection (16) on the lower edge of the upper nipper plate (10) extends downwards in front of the leading edge of the lower nipper plate (9) in order to direct the tuft against the teeth (18) of the circular comber. This projection (16) consists of a plastic rail interchangeably secured to a base section (15) of the upper nipper plate (10). There are several plastic rails (16) of varying lengths corresponding to differing thicknesses of the lap to be processed. Simple adjustment to different lap thicknesses is thus possible. Even if too long a plastic rail (16) is selected in error, because it is made of plastic it cannot damage the circular comber of the machine.
