PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal head high in reliability of heat generating resistors and simple in construction, by leading each electrode layer onto an insulating layer through a conductive layer and electrically connecting each electrode layer to a heat generating resistor. CONSTITUTION:A heat generating resistor 6 is electrically connected to each of electrode layers 2, 4 through a conductive layer 8, and is provided on a glass layer 3, with an insulating layer 9 therebetween. The film thickness of the resistor layer 6 is determined in relation to the resistance of the layer 6, but it is generally about 0.1mu in the case of a thin film resistor. An abrasion- resistant protective layer 7 is provided on the resistor 6. Thus, a relatively thick insulating layer 9 is provided on the glass layer 3, and the heat generating resistor 6 is provided on the layer 9. When the insulating layer 9 is formed from a highly dense material, a smooth undercoat layer for the resistor 6 can be obtained, and a heat generating resistor 6 with favorable adhesion and high reliability can be obtained. |
