PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the above compound useful as an intermediate for agrochemicals, etc., in a high yield. SOLUTION: 2-Methylene glutaronitrile is reacted with ammonia in the presence of salts and water at 80-200 deg.C, preferably under 5-30atom for 2-10hr and ammonia in the reaction solution is distilled away under reduced pressure and further, the added salts are removed by filtration under reduced pressure and the residual liquid is extracted with a halogen-based solvent (e.g. dichloromethane), preferably in an amount of 2-10 times by weight based on amount of the reaction solution to provide the objective piperidone compound represented by the formula (R is cyano or carboxyamide), e.g. 2-piperidone-5- nitrile. An ammonium salt such as ammonium chloride in an amount of 0.05-0.1mol equivalent of a manganese-based compound in an amount of 0.01-0.5mol equivalent is added as the salts. |
