Orthondic pliers (20) when heated are used for producing or modifying bumps on a thermoplastic retainer (22). One of the jaws (16) has a throughbore (26) or a blind bore (32) for receiving the bump forming end (24) of the other jaw (14). The jaw (14) with the bump forming end (24) is shorter, and curvilinear so that the only part of that jaw that comes in contact with the retainer (22) is the bump forming end (24). Additionally, the bump forming end (24) may be of different shapes in order to produce different shaped bumps such as ramps (36), logos (46), logo pockets (62), fluoride pockets (76), bite plates, rectangular shapes (144) for the retention of blocks to be wired, and hooks (88) for elastic banding, depending on the needs of the individual patients.
|
