<p>A method and apparatus (15) for the irrigation and aspiration of the gastrointestinal tract. In one form of the present invention a closed system having two fluid compartments (16, 25) is connected to an irrigation tube that is positionable within a patient's stomach. The irrigation fluid is allowed to flow into the patient's stomach by removing a flow control device. Upon having sufficiently irrigated the patient's stomach the fluid flow control device is manipulated to allow the contents of the stomach to be aspirated. The contents are delivered into a second fluid recovery container (25). The present invention forms a substantially closed system which limits the introduction of irrigation fluid and other fluids into the environment surrounding a patient.</p> |
