PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for processing an image with which a text can be sharply outputted and expressed by performing the emphasized expression of text characters or text items having the background in white or a single color inside the image. SOLUTION: The image data from an input device 10 are read to the bottom part of input band-shaped memory 22, image sharpening processing is applied to the central area of input band-shaped memory, and the result is written into the bottom part of image band-shaped memory 24. A bottom part 30 of the image band-shaped memory 24 is provided for the RGB frequency distributed page analytic technique, and a high-order section 32 is provided for black text identification and usage of emphasis. At the upper terminal of the image band- shaped memory 24, RGB data concerning the pixel are updated according to the state information generated and stored in a state band-shaped memory 26, and the emphasized page is outputted. Besides, the pixel data in the input band-shaped memory 22 are sharpened by making the ridge lines of the text and other items much sharper and much darker while letting the high frequency component of the image be conspicuous. |
