The stereo effect sound generating method in an electronic musical instrument having a keyboard(12), a microcomputer(16), a switch(14), first and second sound source generating circuits(18,20), amplifiers(24,26), and a speaker(28), comprises the steps of: detecting whether a pressed key is in a stereo mode; if in a mono mode, checking the note of the pressed key to assign a sound source channel of the sound source generating circuits, thereby transmitting data; if in the stereo mode, checking the note of the pressed key to assign a sound source channel of the sound source generating circuits; operating the sound source generating circuit(18) to transmit note data, thereby generating a first channel sound and counting a delay time corresponding to a key pressing data; enabling the sound source generating circuit(20) upon the completion of the counting for the delay time to thereby transmit the note data, thereby generating a second channel sound.
