Selective condensation of aromatic and carbonyl compounds in multi-contact counterflow reactor

Selective condensation of an aromatic derivative (A) with a carbonyl derivative (B), continuously in a single step in presence of at least one solid catalyst comprises (1) continuously feeding a vertical, multi-contact reaction/extraction reactor with (a) a liquid phase containing (B) and (b) catalyst, at the top; (2) feeding the reactor continuously with a liquid phase containing (A) at a position below the introduction point of (B); (3) circulating (B) downwards and (A) upwards, and (4) continuously extracting the reaction product in a liquid extract phase at the top of the reactor. Also new is equipment for this process.
