METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR DISPLAY OF MAP IN CAR NAVIGATION SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system which deal easily with an actual scene and whose responsivity is good even when all objects to be displayed are displayed three-dimensionally. SOLUTION: Map data 4 which contains a road and an object and object-display- method selection reference data 5 which is used to select the display method of an object having a feature are stored in a storage device 2. The map data 4 to be displayed is read out from the storage device 2 by a processor 3. An object about which the display method contained in the object-display-method selection reference data 5 is to be selected is extracted from the object in the map data 4. The display method of the object is decided by the reference data 5. A map which contains the object and the road in the map data 4 to be displayed is displayed. Then, an object which is 'close to' an own vehicle is displayed by a perspective projection method in which the position of the own vehicle is used as an observer's eye. An object which is 'a little distant' is displayed by a parallel projection method in which the object is overlooked from the sky above the own vehicle. An object which is 'distant' is displayed by a parallel projection method (a vertical projection method) in which the object is viewed from just above.
