PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically recognize a character string even though a user just continuously writes characters even without having to be aware of a punctuation between characters. SOLUTION: A handwritten information acquiring means 202 fetches the strokes of a character written on a tablet 201 in the unit of one stroke to a buffer 208. A recognition candidate character string generating means 203 generates a recognition candidate character string with respect to an input stroke string in the buffer 208 and stores the recognition candidate character string in a buffer 209. A character string likelihood calculating means 204 generates a character string structure dictionary obtained by combining correspondence dictionary information in a character structure dictionary 211 with correspondence dictionary information in an inter-character dictionary 212 in each recognition candidate character string in the buffer 209 to collate the character string structure dictionary with the input stroke string. An input character string estimating means 205 estimates a character string part where character segmentation results from the front are common with respect to each recognition candidate character string in the buffer 209 as a recognition determination character string. The determination character string is displayed on a display 213.
