SOLUTION: This positive electrode active material for the lithium secondary battery is composed of an active material body comprising a spinel type lithium manganese composite oxide formed by substituting a part of Mn with an element M and expressed by formula (1) and a coated layer stuck to at least a part of the surface of the active material body, and the coated layer comprises a compound containing a Li element. Li(1+x) Mn(2-x-y) My O4 ...(1), where M is one, two or more kinds of elements selected from among Fe, Cr, Ni, Rh and Al, and 0<x<0.2, 0<y<0.2.
