PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable to surely compensate a waveform degradation of received signals by wavelength dispersion or the like without using a dispersion compensation fiber. SOLUTION: The method comprises a waveform degradation compensation means 5 of a valuable compensation characteristics type capable of compensating the waveform degradation of the received signals whose waveforms are degraded by a transmission line 30, received signal waveform measuring means 8 for measuring waveform data of the received signals (hereinafter described as received waveform data), and a control means 9 for controlling the compensation characteristics of the waveform degradation compensation means 5 so that a difference between frequency data of the received signals taken by converting the received waveform date taken by the received waveform measuring means to a frequency region and frequency data of a standard waveform not having the waveform degradation becomes minimum.
