PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To drive a sector probe by using a transmission/reception section for a convex probe and a linear probe. SOLUTION: When the sector probe is used in an ultrasonic diagnosis apparatus for which the convex probe or the linear probe is usually used, N pieces of vibrating elements whose number is the same as the number N (<L) of channels of the transmission/reception section 3 are selected from among L pieces of vibrating elements of the sector probe so that the selected elements are distributed in the entire part the vibrating element arrangement with almost equal pitch, and only a switch of a high-voltage switch 2 connected to the selected vibrating elements is turned on to perform sector scanning by the transmission/reception section 3. In this way, sector scanning can be performed by using the transmission/reception section having the number of channels which is smaller than the number of vibrating elements of the sector probe.
