In an electrode for cells, a mixture for electrode made of powder of such an active material as nickel hydroxide, or hydrogen-occluding alloy, a thickener, a binder, etc., is carried on a conductive substrate. The powder of the active materials are bound to each other with a silane coupling agent or the surface of the conductive substrate is covered with a thin film of the silane coupling agent and the mixture for electrode is bound with the conductive substrate through the thin film.
