A user interface is configured to control a vehicle control system. The user interface comprises a first touch pad on a back side of a steering wheel of a vehicle. The user interface further comprises a second touch pad arranged on the back side of the steering wheel. The user interface further comprises a processor which is configured to detect a first gesture on the first touch pad and a second gesture on the second touch pad in a correlated manner. The processor is further configured to generate at least one control message for the vehicle control system based on a first gesture and based on a second gesture.

1. A user interface configured to control a vehicle control system, the user interface comprising:
a first touch pad arranged at a first position on a back side of a steering wheel of the vehicle; a second touch pad arranged at a second position on the back side of the steering wheel, the second position being different from the first position; a processor configured to detect a first gesture on the first touch pad and a second gesture on the second touch pad, wherein the processor is further configured to generate at least one control message for the vehicle control system based on the first gesture and based on the second gesture responsive to detecting the first and second gestures in a correlated manner; and a data interface coupled to the processor and being configured to send the at least one control message to the vehicle control system; wherein detecting the first and second gestures in a correlated manner comprises detecting the second gesture within a threshold time of the first gesture.
