PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve accuracy in detecting whether a user is walking or not walking.SOLUTION: A mobile terminal measures an acceleration of the mobile terminal in a vertical direction and an acceleration of the mobile terminal in a horizontal direction. The mobile terminal uses the acceleration in the vertical direction to detect whether the user is walking or not walking. The mobile terminal acquires an acceleration in the horizontal direction during a predetermined period in which it is detected that the user is not walking. If it is detected that the user is not walking, the mobile terminal uses the acquired acceleration in the horizontal direction to identify a change in a speed of the mobile terminal in the horizontal direction and determines whether the user is not walking, based on the identified change in the speed in the horizontal direction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
