In a one-way sprag clutch, the sprags 25 have a counterweight portion 35 acted on by centrifugal force to pivot the sprags out of action when a predetermined speed during overrun is exceeded. As shown, the sprags are mounted by trunnions 28 in cage rings 22 at each end, and are urged into drive transmitting position by expanding garter springs 23 acting on transverse surfaces 31 on both ends of the sprags. The cage is connected to the inner or outer race 20, 21, depending on which is to overrun, by drag springs (26), Fig. 2 (not shown), fixed to the cage and frictionally abutting the respective race. The cage rings are connected by spacer bars (24), Fig. 1 (not shown), and the inner and outer races supported by sealed roller bearings (13). |
