Trioxan and anolefinically unsaturated comonomer are copolymerized in the presence of a catalyst and in suspension in an inert liquid which is a saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon, a saturated cyclic hydrocarbon or a saturated fluorocarbon. Suitable comonomers are mono-, di- or tri-olefins (including cyclic olefins), vinyl esters, acrylates, methacrylates, vinyl ethers, acroleins, acrylic acid, acrylonitrile, vinyl and allyl halides, various monovinyl aromatic compounds, and norbornylene. Suitable catalysts are Lewis acids, e.g. aryl diazonium. hexafluorophosphate or PF 5 , (which may be complexed), Zeigler-type catalysts, or heterogeneous, e.g. metal oxides, acid clays or ionexchange resins. The copolymers may be aftertreated with an "end-capping" agent, e.g. acid anhydride, isocyanate or etherification agent and/or base stabilized. The examples relate to the copolymerization of trioxan with norbornylene, styrene, 1,3- and 1,5-cyclooctadiene, cyclododecene, vinyl cyclohexene, 1,7-octadiene, 1,5,9-cyclododecatriene, and vinyl toluene, using PF 5 as catalyst and the following suspending media: cetane, a paraffin wax, C 15 - C 18 n-paraffin, a commercial paraffinic hydrocarbon oil, perfluorokerosene, (C 4 H 9 ) 3 N, C 2 F 4 Cl 2 and perfluorocyclobutane
