[Also in Division C3] The invention comprises (A) 11#-substituted siloxy) - 17α- hydroxy - 21 - acyloxy - steroids (II) and 11#-substituted siloxy)-17α,21-diacyloxy-steroids (III) (the acyloxy groups being the same or different); and (B) a process for the preparation of 11#,21-dihydroxy-17α-acyloxysteroids (IV) from 11#,17α- dihydroxy - 21- acyloxy-steroids (I) comprising the sequence I # II # III # IV. The final stage may be effected with an inorganic acid in water or an alcohol and may be effected in a single operation or, as in Example V (B), via an isolatable 11# - hydroxy - 17α,21 - diacyloxy - steroid intermediate.</p> |
