A process for absorbing and burning off oil &c. floating on water &c. comprises the application of absorbent, non-inflammable and foamed inorganic particles to the oil &c. and burning the latter absorbed by them. The particles are buoyant in the oil &c. and may be hydrophobized. Preferred materials for the foamed particles include the silicates of sodium, calcium and aluminium, mica, alumina, clay, and metals, e.g. aluminium.</p> |
