TiO2 particles are coated with triethanolamine oxide, e.g. by treating the TiO2 with triethanolamine oxide (either as a solid or in aqueous or organic solution), or by adding triethanolamine and H2O2 to an aqueous suspension of TiO2 to form the oxide in situ. The TiO2 may be rutile or anatase, with a particle size of 0.1-0.5 m , and may be obtained by the sulphate process or by the vapour phase oxidation of TiCl4. It may be initially coated with 0.1-10% Al, Zr, Ti, Ce, Si oxides or phosphates. The amount of triethanolamine oxide used may be 0.05-5% by wt. of the TiO2. The coated TiO2 may be dried e.g. at 80-210 DEG C., and milled in a fluid energy mill. |
