The invention comprises compounds of the formula in which X is oxygen or sulphur and R is phenyl, halophenyl, alkylphenyl, nitrophenyl, alkylthiophenyl, haloalkylphenyl, phenoxyphenyl or halophenoxyphenyl, but excluding the compound in which X is oxygen and R is phenyl. They may be prepared by reacting the appropriate phenyl isocyanate or isothiocyanate with 2,5-dimethylpyrrolidine. A long list of products of the above formula is given. The carboxanilides of the above formula may be used as plant toxicants in solid form as mixtures with solid carriers, e.g. talc, clay, pyrophyllite, silica and fuller's earth or as solutions in water or organic solvents which may contain wetting agents or dispersing agents. The mixtures may also contain fertilizers, insecticides fungicides, nematocides and other herbicides. |
