1,148,168. Rosin-modified phenolic resins, composition, nitrocellulose composition. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 16 June, 1967 [7 July, 1966], No. 30573/66. Addition to 978,242. Headings C3F and C3R. [Also in Divisions C4-C5] In the solid pigment composition of Specification 978,242, the resin is an unesterified rosin-modified phenolic resin, particularly a phenol-formaldehyde resin. The pigment may be organic, inorganic or carbon black, and a number are listed. In Examples 1 and 8 the compositions are dispersed in a paint containing TiO 2 and a 69% oil length linseed pentaerythritol phthalate alkyd resin; in Examples 10(a) and (b) printing inks are produced using media comprising (a) an esterified modified rosin and ethanol, and (b) nitrocellulose, a short oil length non-drying alkyd resin, methyl ethyl ketone, and ethyl acetate. In Example 1 the phenolic resin is prepared from wood rosin, cresol, paraformaldehyde and magnesium oxide. |
