Electric arc welding plant is equipped with ancillary equipment preventing the sticking of the electrode point to the workpieces and initiating an arc both on contact of the metallic and nonmetallic part of the electrode with the workpiece. - A number of alternatives are open for achieving this consisting of limitation of current and voltage until the arc has formed, superimposition of high tension current, insertion of conducting medium between electrode and workpiece. - Prevention of sticking prevents overheating of electrode and damage to it.
