A fire resistant fibre blend comprising 5-90% of treated synthetic fibres containing a finly divided solid fire retardant and 10-95% of untreated fibres. The synthetic fibre may be composed of an acrylonitrile polymer. The fire retardant is a high melting organic bromine or chlorine compound and synergist. Bromine concentration in the fibre is 1.0-25% with 0.2-5.0% antimony trioxide. A solid organo phosphorus compound may also be used as synergist. Fabrics made from the fibre are fire retardant, lustrous, dyeable and light fast.
