The invention concerns a method for drying wood in a drying chamber, in which the wood charges are cooled after drying with air, which air is cooled with water in a spray tower so that the cooling air at each instant is supplied and has a moisture ratio the same as the moisture ratio in the air, which is in equilibrium with the wood. The heated water is collected in the tank and then used to heat and moisten the drying air at the beginning of the following drying cycle. With the method it is ensured that the quality of the wood does not deteriorate during the heating or cooling phase and the energy demand of the drying process is also reduced by recovering part of the heat.
