摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain good display resolution by disposing at a partition section of a discharge cell group a kindling discharge space and a kindling discharge electrodes with their discharge surfaces facing each other via the kindling discharge space. CONSTITUTION:Kindling discharge electrodes X1,..., Xm, Xm+1, Xm+2,... on one side are disposed on the inner opposing surfaces of a first partition barrier body 3 serving as a partition section of discharge cells S, S,... while kindling discharge electrodes y2,..., Yn, Yn+2, yn+4, Yq on the other side are disposed on the inner opposing surfaces of a partition wall of a second partition barrier body 10 serving as a partition section of the discharge cells S, S,.... The kindling discharge is mainly performed in a kindling discharge space 9 between opposing side surface of the partition wall bodies 3, 10 and a phosphor 4 does not emit light caused in spite of the kindling discharge. Charged particles produced by the kindling discharge are introduced to corresponding display discharge cells S, S,... to perform the display discharge. A good display resolution is thus obtained.
