Polyurethanes are claimed which are the reaction product of (a) a polyurethane prepolymer with isocyanate terminal groups comprising the reaction product of (i) a diisocyanate of formula (I) OCN-(CH2)m-CH(COOR<1>)-NCO (I) in which m = 3 or 4 and R<1> = 1-10 C linear or branched alkyl with (ii) a glycol chosen from poly(oxyalkylene)glycols having a number average molecular weight of 500-5000 and hydroxytelechelic polyesters having an average molecular weight of 500-5000, using a molar ratio (i):(ii) of about 1.7/1 to about 2/1, and (b) a chain extender selected from (A) pseudopeptidic diols of formula (II) Y-CH2-CO-NH-CH(COOR<2>)-X (II) in which Y and X (same or different) = -CH2OH, -CH(CH3)OH or -CH2-p-C6H4OH and R<2> = 1-10 C linear or branched alkyl; (B) oligopeptides of formula (III) H-(NH-CH(R)-CO-)n-NH-B-NH-(-CO-CH(R')-NH-)n'-H (III) in which B = 2-10 C linear or branched aliphatic radical and R and R' (same or different) = a side chain of an alpha -aminoacid of which the functional groups may or may not be protected, having an average degree of polymerisation DPnn' of 2-11, (C) 2-6 C linear or branched alkyldiols and (D) 2-6 C linear or branched alkyldiamines.
