The electronic programming system for domestic washing machines is of the type having a principal memory which stores a collection of elementary data groups each representing a stage of the washing programme. One number being selected to realise a particular washing programme. This selection is achieved by means of a programmed generator having a stage selection memory. This memory validates the stages chosen from the principal memory as the programmed progresses. In a first stage data of a particular programmed is introduced into the memory. This is achieved by means of electrical contacts acting on a programme selector which restores by means of a first optoelectronic device characteristics of the introduced programme. In a second stage the restoration of data relative to the progress of the programme is carried out by means of principle memory scrutinizing device which restores by means of a second optoelectronic visualising device the successive phases of the programme.
