Multi stage press ram balancing arrangement - uses weight operated by lever connected to extension of ram

The balancing arrangement for the ram of a multi-stage press, includes a weight in the shape of a piston (7) connected by a double two-armed lever (14) to an extension (3) of the ram (2). The balance weight is the piston of a single acting pneumatic cylinder (8). The ratio of the mass of the piston to the mass of the ram is inversely proportional to the lengths of the arms of the lever. A cover (9) over the pneumatic cylinder forms an air cushion which loads the piston so that play in the transmission mechanism is taken up. The cover can be interchanged to change the loading.
